With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Johannes (Joe) Mathews John, who left us on September 15, 2024, at the age of 20. Joe was born on September 30, 2003, in Corniche Hospital, Abu Dhabi, to his loving parents, Dr. John Mathew and Dr. Jyothy John.
In 2007, Joe and his family moved from Abu Dhabi to the United States, settling in Houston, Texas. In April 2014, they relocated to Ellicott City, Maryland, where Joe spent his formative years and built meaningful connections.
A beloved son, brother, and friend, Joe's warm and compassionate spirit touched everyone he met. He is survived by his parents, Dr. John Mathew and Dr. Jyothy John, and his cherished sister, Maria John, along with many extended family members and friends who will hold his memory close.
Joe graduated from Marriotts Ridge High School in 2022 where he was a member of the Madrigals School Choir and earned his Eagle Scout rank in August of 2021, reflecting his strong character, leadership, and dedication to his community. He was pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Bioengineering from the University of Maryland, driven by a desire to make a positive impact on society and promote wellness.
Joe was a devoted member of his church community at St. Gregorios Orthodox Church, where he served faithfully as an acolyte and youth leader. His commitment to his faith was evident in his dedication to assisting during services alongside his church brothers and spiritual mentor, Laby Achen. He also participated in many Sunday School competitions exemplifying his skills in rhetoric and singing. Joe's service to his church family was a reflection of his deep spirituality and desire to help others.
A talented varsity soccer player, Joe also had a deep love for basketball and proudly supported the Houston Rockets. His enthusiasm for life, his loyalty to his family and friends, and his warm, dimpled smile will always be remembered.
Dear Joe Bear, you will remain forever in our hearts.
And he said,
“Naked I came from my mother's womb,
and naked shall I return.
The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away;
blessed be the name of the Lord.”
